One of the most comprehensive family estate archives. Title deeds from the late 12th century onwards, a fine series of estate accounts and rentals from c.1660 and many thousands of items of personal and official correspondence, plus a wide range of private papers including travel journals, printed pamphlets and political diaries. Perhaps the most interesting part of the collection is the archive of Peregrine Brownlow, who as Lord in Waiting to Edward VIII had to escort Mrs Simpson to the south of France in December 1936
