The Manor of Downton, near Salisbury belonged from the earliest times to the Bishops of Winchester who leased it out, most notably at the time of these records to the Earls of Pembroke. Also includes a Book of Abstracts made for Sir Charles Duncombe who came to dominate the property interest in the town in the 18th century
