Sketches dating from a time when the two brothers were collaborating on some pictures. The fateful holiday in Scotland when Ruskins portrait was started and Millais relationship with Effie Ruskin began is recorded b y William in a sketch entitled Crossing the Border. The letters are to Emily Hodgkinson, wife of the Millais cousin George Frederick. They tell of a number of expeditions, mentioning two of Millais most famous paintings Ophelia and The Proscribed Royalist
