The archive comprises manuscripts and books from the family library, many of which have been annotated by Watt and his son, James Watt Junior. It includes Watt Junior's correspondence: the letters discuss the publication of works about steam engines and changes in partnership for the firm Boulton & Watt. The archive contains the papers of Watt's son Gregory, a talented mineralogist and geologist, who died from consumption in 1804 aged 27 and also the designs and drawings commissioned by Watt Junior from Richard Bridgens to refurbish and furnish Aston Hall. A drawing by Heneage Legge of Aston Hall is illustrated in the AR.
