Letters and papers relating to Sir Lawrence Dundas, his son Thomas Dundas, first Baron Dundas of Aske, and grandson Lawrence Dundas, first Earl of Zetland c.1764-1820.

The papers reflect the political interests of the family, particularly those of  Sir Thomas, 1st Lord Dundas, who was an associate of the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York.  They include over 150 business letters of 1789 and 1794 and a seven page letter concerning the operation of Dundas's Grenada sugar plantation. Accounts of alum sales from the Loftus estates 1767 to 1773 pre-date by some years those to be found in the main family archive and shed new light on the earlier history of the works. The collection also includes personal and household papers, with a lawyer’s detailed account for the purchase of Aske Hall, 1764, vouchers from London and regional tradesmen including several for china from Josiah Wedgewood and four letters from Greenwood’s auctioneers, London, reporting on the sale by Dundas of family paintings in 1794 '… we have received a commission from Holland but only for one picture which is the Rembrandt …'.
