Collection contains 20 charters granting lands in and around Kirkby Thore to the Cistercian Abbey of Holm Cultram and 22 medieval deeds c oncerning land transactions in the Newbiggin, Temple Sowerby and Ousby districts. There are 16th century royal charters for lands bought after the Dissolution and a Papal Bull of Adrian VI authorising George Crackenthorpe to hold more than one benefice. Amongst miscellaneous papers for the 18th and 19th centuries is a letter from Wordsworth to William Crackenthorpe in 1818, about his (Cs) proposed parliamentary candidacy.
