These four surviving volumes are the most important documents in the whole field of British art in India. They are all that remain of the journals kept by William and Thomas Daniell on their epic journey round the subcontinent that was to result in the great aquatint series Oriental Scenery, published 1795 - 1808. The journals document the Daniells working methods as well as noting contemporary affairs and their travelling itinerary
