Six autograph letters some of substantial length, several being addressed to his difficult step-daughter and her husband with copies of others and transcripts and drafts of replies to his relations, together with a quantity of financial and legal papers. They increase very significantly the known corpus of papers of the great portrait painter, and reveal a history of family quarrels about debts and property speculations
