A volume containing seven very rare catalogues for art sales which took place in the Low Countries between 1767 and 1777, as well as extracts in manuscript for three further sales. The Netherlands were an important centre for the art trade during the 18th century, in part because of the fashion for Dutch painting among collectors, especially in France. The catalogues in the volume, which include those for the sales of the Delft civil servant Johan Anthony Kinschout (1767) and the Antwerp painter Balthazar Beschey (1776), contain entries on many important pictures, the extensive handwritten annotations making them exceptionally valuable for provenance research.
