This archive forms an excellent record of the business of the oldest surviving firm of city solicitors. They appear to have been consistently at the very heart of commercial life of the city of London, with offices at 22 College Hill. There are 36 bill books and 48 client ledgers from which can be seen that they numbered amongst their clients Lord Burlington, the London Assurance, The Turkey Company, James Martin, founder of Martins Bank, and the Barclay family of Barclays bank. There are accounts of work done for Alexander Pope, taking out an injunction in 1741 against Edmund Curll to prevent him pirating any further the editon of Popes correspondence with Swift
