George Lawson bequeathed his library to the living at East Harsley in 1725, where it remained until rescued from the vicarage attic in 1976 after the death of an incumbent and it was taken to York Minster Library. This Manuscript catalogue shows that in the 18th century the books were carefully checked and that curates were under an obligation of 100 for the secure keeping and orderly using of the books
Item Provenance
Purloined by the second hand bookseller who cleared the vicarage of the Lawson bequest in 1976
