Keith graduated MA from Marischal College Aberdeen in 1712 and became its Chancellor. This series of 35 autograph letters emanates from Potsdam where Ketih was in service with Frederick the Great, having fled Scotland after the 1715 rising; they are mostly addressed to his grand-nephew litle Ben - George Keith Elphinstone, later Admiral Lord Keith
