Four beautifully illustrated notebooks, containing a fair copy of the Remarks on forest scenery, and other woodland views ... illustrated by scenes of the New-Forest in Hampshire, published in 1791. There are many additions, deletions and corrections in the authors own hand and 45 delightful watercolours by Gilpin of woodland scenes and individual trees, only 13 of which correspond to plates in the printed edition. They join 53 other Gilpin notebooks already at the Bodleian. Grant donated by the Esme Fairbairn Charitable Trust
Item Provenance
