These 550 letters, together with those written to Venetias sister Sylvia Stanley, already at the Bodleian, are particularly valuable because the Prime Minister destroyed much of his personal correspondence. They are full of details about political, personal and family events and sometimes included enclosures such as a letter from George V or secret memoranda on troop movements during the early stages of the First World War.
