Set of first page proofs and revisions of the first volume of the History of Scotland. From the dates inscribed at the foot of the first page of each gathering, it is clear that Scott was engaged in a complex process of simultaneous composition of new text, and heavy revision and correction of printed text as he received it back from the printer in proof form
