Commonplace book by William Horman, Headmaster of Eton 1501 - 35. Contains jottings on history, chronology and geography with extensive quotations from the Latin poets. The volume may have been written out by a boy, possibly Richard Cox, later Bishop of Ely who was at Eton in 1519 and copied indexes into some of Hormans books
Two account books, one for 1698 - 1704, from the beginning of the working life of the Bristol Merchant John Day, and the other from 1729 - 1753 records James Days work as executor of the estate of Peter Day. Accounts were given for named ships and voyages: the family were principally engaged in the slave trade
The diary together with a volume of autobiography gives a very detailed picture of the life thoughts and opinions of the great leader of the Evangelical wing of the Church of England and prime mover in the campaign for the abolition of slavery. The collection includes 100 letters from Wilberforce and over 300 to him from eminent contemporaries.
