This book, together with the Leeke Cartulary acquired with the help of FONL in 1971, form the only surviving papers of the Leeke family estate centered on Sutton Scarsdale Hall

44 volumes of manuscript journal, copies of 160 official documents and 13 bundles of private letters. The major part of the journals concern Nicholls four periods of service in India. He took part in major campaigns during each of them and was Commander-in-Chief, India, during the first Afghan War.

Rev John Newton, curate of Olney is best remembered today for his hymn Amazing Grace recording his dramatic conversion after a life as a slave trader. 120 letters, mostly unpublished at time of purchase; they give a vivid picture of the sources of Newtons religious belief

The earliest book in a collection of 842 volumes on colour. Also includes Goethes Farbenlehre 1810, Newtons Optics 1704, Kunckels Ars Vitraria Experimentalis 1689 and Portals Symbolic Colours 1844.

King Jamess early attempt to unify the two kingdoms; it would not be until 1707 that the term Great Britain would receive the official recognition of Parliament.
