Covering a legal text (an abridgement of the Book of Assizes) this is the earliest datable English blind-stamped gothic binding. It is from the workshop of the Scales binder, so-called for his use of a tool depicting a pair of scales.
The inscription in this book reveals that far from being deadly rivals, Douglas was on cordial terms with the Adams family

A long duodecimo, the sheets would have simply been folded, unlike other kinds of the same format which require cutting first. 350 working drawings for the RAC by Mews and David, mainly pen and ink and pencil with some hand-coloured on paper, linen and tracing paper. The plans show elevations, sections and details with a complete set of floor plans, designs for sky-lights and other details.

St John was Secretary of State at this time, and he was writing to Charles Boyle who was Envoy Extraordinary in Flanders. The letters cover the period April 1712 to October 1713 and are chiefly concerned with the negotiations which led to the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht
Most of the letters date from before Lloyd George became Prime Minister, and contain comments on both personal and political matters, sometimes written in haste between cabinet meetings and giving his immediate thoughts on the political problems which confronted him.
18 page loose leaf manuscript, written hastily by Gordon with later annotations in red ink. A bald summary of his part in the campaign of supression of a rebellion against the Chinese Emperor, by a native force financed by the Shanghai merchants. It was probably written at the request of Samuel Mossman, editor of the North China Herald

Collection contains 20 charters granting lands in and around Kirkby Thore to the Cistercian Abbey of Holm Cultram and 22 medieval deeds c oncerning land transactions in the Newbiggin, Temple Sowerby and Ousby districts.
