Jacques was a prolific illustrator and her archive contains copies of all the books she illustrated, by some of Britains best known childrens authors including Henry Treece, Philippa Pearce, Nina Bawden, Leon Garfield, Ursula Moray Williams, Roald Dahl and Alan Ahlberg.

The archive includes early diaries, manuscripts of his own writings, constituency papers and correspondence, papers, reports and accounts for his printing and publishing business, notes and working papers; letters from readers of his books and articles and appointment books and personal correspondence.

Collection contains 8 unpublished plays and novels written either by Orton or by Orton and Halliwell, as well as Ortons own typescripts of all his published plays, and annotated production scripts; Edna Welthorps letters and carbon copies of Ortons replies. There are also large numbers of press cuttings and personal memorablilia.

The railway history of the County of Dorset begins with the Portland Railway Company, formed by a group of merchants to better transport Portland Stone from the quarries.

There is also a group of his designs for manufactures in ceramic, glass, metal and other materials, chiefly made to be reproduced as ideas in the Art Union Journal

Clavering commanded one of the two troops of militia raised by the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, the Earl of Scarbrough, and these papers give a vivid picture of Claverings intelligence gathering activities

Over 500 letters addressed to Bewick and to his daughters who continued his engraving business after his retirement in 1812. The letters cover all aspects of the business, including the offer of bird specimens for drawing, orders for work and books.

20 good letters ; two in particular are packed with comment on the doings of contemporaries in the Royal Academy, to which Roberts had been elected as Associate in 1838 and as Academician in 1841. In another letter he writes of a picure he is painting of our dear little Queen.

Bales was the greatest English calligrapher of the Elizabethan age, and these Latin verses are a fine example of his exquisite penmanship. The Latin verses were probably written as a flattering present for Archbishop John Whitgift from whom Bales hoped for patronage. Illustrated at p. 47 of AR

A slim unpretentious volume of tile designs is one of only three known survivng examples of Mintons first trade catalogue. Herbert Minton perfected a method of making encaustic titles for church floors using medieval methods and designs. Championed by AW Pugin, they soon became immensely popular. Five volumes of letters received from ministers and a letter book 1656-69; they provide many insights into a soldier, politician, diplomat and naval commander who moved from one side to the other of the political divide.

This edition of Richard III is the first real translation of Shakespeare into Russian. The identity of the translator, who was probably working from the French of Pierre Prime Flicin Le Tourneur has not yet been established

An emigrants guide to the different states and territories of the US with much general advice, and advice about passage and settlement. The high level of insanity in California obviously worried the writer, who was US Consul General at Newcastle upon Tyne; he ascribed it to the type of person attracted to the Gold Rush.

69 items representing the working library of the Birmingham industrial designer Reginald E Edgcombe, who was principal designer for Osler and Farraday, ranging from design theory, to practical handbooks and visual reference material. His books included W & G Audsleys Polychromatic Decoration 1882, and Outlines of Ornament 1881.

In 1602 William Shakespeare bought 107 acres of land in the open fields of Stratford for 320. This is the unsigned draft intended for Shakespeares signature (that signed by the vendors William and John Combe was already owned by SBT).
